The
aluminized MBRP exhaust systems, offered by Diesel
Performance Parts, Inc., are produced using top quality mandrel
bent aluminized steel exhaust components for the 1999-2003 7.3 and 2003
and newer 6.0 Liter Ford Power Stroke, Super Duty trucks. Every system
is shipped with all the necessary parts and tubing to fit any body style
or bed length F250 or F350 pick-up truck, with the exception of the cab
and chassis models. The systems are designed to install on standard, Super
and Crew Cab trucks with both short and long beds.
The
7.3 Liter systems begin at the turbocharger with the down pipe that is
available in either a three and one half-inch or four-inch size aluminized
steel mandrel bent tube. The 6.0 Liter down pipe is three and one-half
inches in diameter to make installation and performance with the 6.0 liter
engines VRT turbo perfect. The down pipe then joins with the four-inch
aluminized steel tubing just before the transmission cross member. Joining
the two pipes just before the cross member eliminates the need to remove
the cross member for installation. The 6.0 Liter system joins the down
pipe to the factory catalytic converter by bolting directly to the converter’s
flange. There is an optional converter test pipe available for the 6.0
liter trucks. It is much easier to cut the factory system off when the
replacement performance system is designed to install without having to
remove the cross member. The four-inch section joins with the spiral flow
core muffler just before the rear axle.
The
Spiral Flow louvered muffler is a six-inch diameter by thirty-inch long,
aluminized steel case, containing an inner packing material made of stainless
steel wool, with a ceramic blanket outer packing. Most diesel performance
mufflers are manufactured by rolling flat stock into a muffler can and
full length welding the seam The added expense of using tubing more than
justifies itself in long product life. The first place a diesel exhaust
system will usually fail is in the muffler, and almost always at the weld
seam that runs the full length of the muffler case. Because the Spiral
Flow muffler uses factory formed tubing that potential failure problem
is eliminated. The interior of the muffler is a four inch aluminized steel
tube that dampens the resonance of diesel exhaust and still keeps the interior
noise level of the cab within comfortable levels of the factory sound level.
The muffler incorporates a Spiral Flow louver that is specifically designed
for diesel exhaust performance. Notice too the size of the louvers is small
to eliminate any restriction, but large enough to dampen exhaust noise.
Some competitive louvered mufflers use extremely large louvers that are
a major restriction in exhaust flow. The spiral pattern (view
picture)
of the louvers promotes the same flow the turbocharger introduced to the
exhaust gasses as they left the turbocharger. The spiral pattern of the
louvers helps speed the exhaust gasses out of the exhaust system to lower
the exhaust gas temperatures as quickly as possible. The competitions diesel
muffler in a lot of cases, is a hollow core/can without any packing material
that actually produces a restriction by allowing the hot exhaust gasses
to get into the outer “can” and then trying to “fight”
their way back out of the outer can into the main exhaust stream. Restriction
is the exact reason you are looking for a replacement performance exhaust
systems in the first place.
The
4-inch tailpipe slides on the spiral flow core muffler and can end with
one of four optional five-inch T-304 stainless steel tips.
The systems we offer do NOT have a TWO
piece tail pipe design. Not only is a two piece design more prone to corrosion
and moving out of alignment as the systems ages, it’s has an unattractive
clamp joint that is readily visible on all four wheel drive applications.
A tail pipe made out of a single piece of aluminized steel is exactly how
the OEM manufacturer designed your factory system and it is the best most
secure and attractive way to build a performance system as well. Diesel
Performance Parts, Inc. offers four different tips that are available
in five-inch T-304 stainless steel as either a straight
cut or angle cut single wall rolled edge or as a dual wall straight cut
or angle cut edge designs. The tip is located directly behind the rear
wheel and is battered by road debris. The road debris will cause rust almost
immediately in a chrome-plated tip, but not in a T-304
stainless tip. Final positioning of the five-inch T-304 stainless
steel polished, rolled edge tip and tail pipe is accomplished using the
adjustment provided in the rear muffler hanger bracket (view picture).
The joint clamps provided in our systems are plated to prevent corrosion
and provide a long life. You can’t use a stainless steel joint clamp
as the threads of the stainless fasteners will “gall up” when
tightened sufficiently to seal the joints.
The Power Stroke exhaust system has been dyno tested to produce as much
as 23-horsepower and 48-foot pounds of torque. The average gains are 18-horsepower
and 40-foot pounds of torque. The turbocharger spool up times are also
dramatically reduced. Mileage gains will also be related to your driving
style and truck operating condition. The extra power an exhaust system
provides is great, but the systems ability to lower your exhaust gas temperatures
will allow you to make other performance modifications and still keep your
exhaust gas temperatures at a safe level.
The
aluminized steel systems are protected by an exclusive one year warranty,
to the original purchaser.
