Dodge Cummins Aluminized Stainless Steel Four-Inch Exhaust Systems

The MBRP exhaust systems, offered by Diesel Performance Parts, Inc., for the Dodge Cummins 5.9 diesel exhaust system is designed to replace the entire factory exhaust system for 1994 and newer model years. The system is manufactured of mandrel bent aluminized steel tubing and steel hanger components. Every system is packaged to fit any style pick up cab or bed length. This is accomplished without any cutting, as the tubing is precisely designed for each body and bed style.

The Dodge Cummins system begins with a four-inch aluminized steel down pipe, followed by the four-inch intermediate pipe. The Spiral Flow muffler is manufactured from aluminized steel followed by the four-inch mandrel bent tail pipe that can include four different optional five-inch T-304 mirror polished stainless steel rolled edge tips.

The spiral flow louver muffler is a six-inch round by thirty-inch long aluminized steel case, containing an inner packing material made of stainless steel wool, with a ceramic blanket outer packing. Most diesel performance mufflers are manufactured by rolling flat stock into a muffler can and full length welding the seam The added expense of using tubing more than justifies itself in long product life. The first place a diesel exhaust system will usually fail is in the muffler and almost always at the weld seam that runs the full length of the muffler case. Because the Spiral Flow muffler uses factory formed tubing that potential failure problem is eliminated. The Spiral Flow muffler incorporates innovative designs like the reversed washer muffler end plates. Most exhaust manufacturers weld the muffler end caps or washers to the outside of the muffler’s inner tubing in an exposed area. That is OK if you are using only stainless steel! However on aluminized systems that weld will be exposed to the first rain or salt spray you encounter. We take the end cap and stamp it with an internal flange to protect the muffler and provide the longest possible lifespan. Another benefit of the reversed end cap is a smooth attractive muffler appearance.

The interior of the muffler is a one piece four inch aluminized steel tube that dampens the resonance of diesel exhaust and still keeps the interior noise level of the cab within comfortable levels of the original factory sound level. The competitions diesel muffler in a lot of cases is a hollow core/can without any packing material that actually produces a restriction by allowing the hot exhaust gasses to enter the outer “can” and then when trying to “fight” their way back out of the outer can into the main exhaust stream create a restriction. That is contradictory to the reason you are looking for a performance exhaust systems in the first place. The MBRP muffler design uses a spiral flow louver that is specifically designed for diesel exhaust performance. The spiral pattern (view picture) of the louvers promotes the same twist the turbocharger introduced to the exhaust gasses as they left the turbocharger housing. The spiral flow of the louvers helps speed the exhaust gasses out of the exhaust system to lower the exhaust gas temperatures as quickly as possible. Notice too the size of the louvers is small to eliminate any restriction, but large enough to dampen exhaust noise. Some competitive louvered mufflers use extremely large louvers that are a major restriction in exhaust flow.

The tail pipe is a four-inch aluminized steel mandrel bent tube that provides the maximum clearance for the suspension and spare tire during installation. The systems we offer do NOT have a TWO piece tail pipe design. Not only is a two piece design more prone to corrosion and moving out of alignment as the systems ages, it’s has an unattractive clamp joint that is readily visible on all four wheel drive applications. A tail pipe made out of a single piece of stainless steel is exactly how the OEM manufacturer designed your factory system and it is the best most secure and attractive way to build a performance system as well. Diesel Performance Parts, Inc. offers four different tips that are available in five inch T-304 stainless steel as either a straight cut or angle cut single wall rolled edge, or as a dual wall straight cut or angle cut design. The tip is located directly behind the rear wheel and is battered by road debris. The road debris will cause rust almost immediately in a chrome-plated tip but not in a T-304 stainless tip.

The Dodge Cummins exhaust system has been dyno tested to provide as much as 24-horsepower and 53-foot pounds of torque. The average gain is 19-horsepower and 43-foot pounds of torque. The exhaust system will lower your exhaust gases by up to as much as 200 degrees, while providing a quicker spool up time on your turbocharger. There are even fuel mileage gains with our exhaust system. The mileage gains will vary by individual driving style and location. Extra power is great, but lower exhaust gas temperatures will allow you to make other performance modifications to your diesel engine and still keep the exhaust gas temperatures still at a safe level.

The aluminized steel systems are protected by a one year warranty, to the original purchaser.
